Jonathan Qu and Kevin Li are award-winning directors, producers, directors of photography, and the cofounders of Curiosity Films. Their first feature documentary, “Knocking on Heaven’s Door,” is a 2024 Sundance Institute grantee.

Werner Herzog famously seeks ecstatic truth in the sublime. But every time we stand before the sublime and the fleeting moment of awe passes, all we see is absurdity. Our mission as filmmakers is to explore curiosity, the most enigmatic human trait. This is why we film science: it represents the ultimate expression of human curiosity. We are fascinated by the people behind the discoveries, and what their stories may ultimately reveal about what it means to be human.

Curiosity Films produces character-driven POV documentaries that tell compelling stories in science and technology. Curiosity Films is currently in production and development for several science programs licensed by CBC and TVO. Their work has been featured by National Geographic, Vice, Google, Facebook, and NASA.
